✶ imeeji: memory

You're right. I killed them. Ansfrid, Hrudolf, Emelin - trained and fought with every last one of them. Good soldiers to a man.
The Price of Freedom
Summary
✶ Running through the corridors of a vast military complex, Alisaie and Alphinaud catch up with the Warrior of Light just in time to witness them slaying a rampaging mutant. After checking that the Warrior of Light is all right, and confirming they have completed their own objectives, the three set out to regroup with their companion Lyse.
✶ The three meet up with Lyse and her companions outside the doors of the base's Fire Control Center - the objective of their mission. Declaring her intent to hit their enemies hard and fast, Lyse leads the way in.
✶ The party disturb Imperial Tribunus Fordola rem Lupis, commanding a small group of Garlean soldiers, at the Fire Control Center's central console, something she's clearly anticipated. Lyse demands to know she was the one responsible for firing the cannons the first time, killing her own surrendering comrades. Fordola, though clearly distressed, confirms it, telling Lyse that she trained and fought alongside many of the soldiers she has just killed - but she knew exactly what she was doing when she gave the orders.
✶ Fordola tells Lyse she considers her actions the price they all must pay so Ala Mhigans can live freely. Believing Garlean rule to be inevitable, she and her friends set it upon themselves to become model Imperial citizens. They hoped that this would prove their worth to their conquerors and allow them to regain their freedom, if not their liberation - but, though this granted them citizenship, they still had to work twice as hard to be accepted. Lyse rejects this notion utterly, calling Fordola a butcher and a traitor.
✶ Lyse moves to attack Fordola, but cannot land a blow - the other woman appears to be reading her moves, dodging everything she throws at her. The rest of the soldiers in the command room turn on the Warrior of Light and their companions, and a fight breaks out.
✶ Alisaie, unengaged and open, tries to take advantage of the chaos to slip around the edges of the fight and back up Lyse. Fordola, however, is faster still: she springs away, backflipping over Alisaie's head and striking her down with a single blow to her chest. Entirely outflanked, Fordola somehow still saw that one coming too - something that confirms as clearly as the flash of strange light in her eyes that something more than mere skill with a sword is at play here.
✶ Everything beyond this point is extremely vague: muddled sounds, movements, and something that sounds like shattering glass are about all that can be made out. Anyone viewing is able only to understand that Fordola has somehow escaped, and left with a lingering sense of shock and frustration and shame as the memory fades out.
Notes
✶ Alisaie misses the implication, but Fordola is touching her forehead a lot during this memory. This is a gesture seen repeatedly from individuals gifted with a power known as the Echo - including the Warrior of Light - when recollecting events.
✶ Fordola is my girlfriend.
✶ The player-character Warrior of Light, who accompanies Alisaie, is seen as a humanoid shape made up of blinding white light surrounded by a rainbow corona, of indeterminate age, race and gender. None of their individual features are discernible, and though they can be seen to be speaking their voice cannot be made out. That said, please enjoy this Warrior of Light: an enormous Hellsguard Roegadyn Marauder, in full Shisui tank gear, wearing flowers in his hair. I know I'm going to.
