Part 1

Making promises you have no way of keeping is not a kindness! We've all searched for an answer, and we all came-back empty-handed!

The Unbroken Thread

Summary

✶ The assembled Scions of the Seventh Dawn, together with a redheaded girl named Ryne, come upon the Warrior of Light, who is trying to secure passage out of the Crystarium, a city of glass and wrought iron. As they watch from a distance, the Warrior of Light suffers a painful fit of some kind that leaves them visibly reeling. Urianger, however, states that the Scions are here because they had heard that the Warrior of Light has recovered.

✶ Urianger apologizes to the Warrior of Light, saying that he has been keeping information not only from them, but from the other Scions with them, about the aims and identity of someone called the Crystal Exarch. He says he has now come clean to the others and was intending to do so to the Warrior of Light, but can tell from their expression they already know everything. Urianger begs the Warrior of Light's leave to accompany them on their journey, as he wishes to help them to the best of his ability, which is duly granted.

✶ Here Ryne interrupts: she is uneasy about the Warrior of Light leaving the Crystarium, as she cannot guarantee the treatment she gave to hold back the 'Light' will last. She begs them to stay in safety a little longer, promising they will find a way to cure them for good.

✶ Alisaie now interrupts Ryne, and she's furious with her. She ignores Alphinaud's attempt to talk her down - she knows Ryne was just trying to help, but that should never have come in the form of a promise there was no way she could keep. That, she says, is not kindness: it's simply a lie. No matter how hard they've been looking, none of the Scions have any idea how to cure the Warrior of Light's affliction. The last thing she wants to do now is stand in their way when this may be the only chance they have to do anything about it at all.

✶ Alisaie reveals she already feels she has failed the Warrior of Light. Her voice breaks and she is too overwhelmed to continue.

✶ The rest of the Scions are all in agreement: they have exhausted all their other options, and now wish only to follow the Warrior of Light where they lead. If there is an answer to be found, they'll surely find it fighting by their side. Thancred now turns to Ryne, asking if they are all in agreement that this is the best course. Though she is silent for a moment, an uncertain look on her face, Ryne nods, and her own gaze becomes determined.

Notes

✶ This isn't just a sunny day. Wherever Alisaie is right now, the entire sky is fundamentally broken, in a way that is fundamentally wrong.

✶ The player-character Warrior of Light, who accompanies Alisaie, is seen as a humanoid shape made up of blinding white light surrounded by a rainbow corona, of indeterminate age, race and gender. None of their individual features are discernible, and though they can be seen to be speaking their voice cannot be made out.

✶ Though character names are used in the summary for the sake of comprehension, any viewers watching the memory will find most names remain inaudible. All references to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and the Crystarium and Crystal Exarch, however, can now be heard clearly.
