Part 1

Allow me to accompany you, Brother. And before you think to refuse, know that I am not the girl I once was.

Two Sides of a Coin

Summary

✶ Suffering from the effects of poison, Alisaie is brought semi-conscious to a manor in the snowy city of Ishgard by Thancred, a member of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Though she is in great pain, she informs her brother and the Warrior of Light that a group calling itself the Warriors of Darkness are in league with another known as the Ascians, and are slaughtering Primals as the first part in a grander plan. She tells the pair where they are heading next - Xephatol - then loses consciousness.

✶ She is taken to a nearby infirmary, where she is treated as the charge of Ser Aymeric de Borel. Under the care of Scion Y'shtola Rhul and the chirugeons on site, Alisaie makes a full recovery. When Alphinaud and the Warrior of Light return from Xephatol with news, she requests to see them.

✶ The Warrior of Light tells the group that they spoke with a member of the Warriors of Darkness, who claim they wish to provoke a Calamity simply to save another world. Thancred is openly skeptical, but Alphinaud believes there may be some truth in this.

✶ Alisaie explains how she came to be following the group. Her curiosity was initially sparked simply by their resemblance to the Scions, but as she learned more she stumbled on proof of Ascian involvement. She feels the Beast Tribes are being provoked by the Ascians into an escalation, summoning stronger and stronger gods, in the wake of the Scions' own victories over the Primals and the death of the dragon Nidhogg. She believes that ultimately, however, the Beast Tribes will look to a new god: the Ascians' own deity Zodiark.

✶ Thancred proposes a strategy of stopping summonings before they can happen by ensuring the Beast Tribes' supplies of crystals are cut off. Ser Aymeric also wishes to be involved, stating that his own father was also involved with the Ascians before.

✶ Alphinaud proposes that he and the Warrior of Light go to speak to a Scion called Urianger to discuss matters further. Hearing this, Alisaie declares that she wishes to come too - and she isn't about to take No for an answer. Though momentarily shocked, it is obvious to Alphinaud that she means it. He tells her she is more than welcome, adding that she is the one who set them upon their current path to begin with.

✶ Scion administrator Tataru has designed Alisaie new clothes. This appears to be a thing that happens whether one asks for it or not

✶ Now suitably attired, Alisaie meets up with Alphinaud and the Warrior of Light again. They share a moment of mutual relief that Tataru has not taken a leaf out of their mother's stylebook and her new outfit is nothing like his own - though Alphinaud's is short-lived as Alisaie begins recounting a tale of being mistaken for him by one of his girlfriends.

✶ The anecdote cut off at the pass (though Alisaie threatens to finish it up later), Alphinaud compliments his sister, saying that she seems more resolute now than she did when they last met. Alisaie characteristically downplays this: she doesn't feel she's found her purpose, and is joining the Scions now only because she'd regret it if she didn't. With that, the party head off to the Waking Sands in search of Urianger, and whatever clarity he can provide.

Notes

✶ The player-character Warrior of Light, who accompanies the group, is seen as a humanoid shape made up of blinding white light surrounded by a rainbow corona, of indeterminate age, race and gender. None of their individual features are discernible, and though they can be seen to be speaking their voice cannot be made out.

✶ Though character names are used in the summary for the sake of comprehension, any viewers watching the memory will find most names remain inaudible. All references to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, the Warriors of Darkness, and the Ascians, however, can now be heard clearly.
