The Illuminated Land
Summary
[THE QUICK VERSION]
✶ Scions meet the Warrior of Light on what looks to be the bottom of the ocean floor. They're in a giant bubble allowing them all to breathe.
✶ While watching one of the tribe's religious observamces, the discuss the many, many sidequests they were all sent on as means of establishing rapport with the Ondo. A race of amphibious fish-men who live most of their lives underwater, the Ondo's village has suddenly found itself exposed to air and consequently is struggling to adapt.
✶ They discuss some strange structures on the ocean floor which Y'shtola believes date back to the time of the Ascians. Though the twins disbelieved him, Emet-Selch was clearly telling the truth about there having once been a great city here, which the Ascians have spent thousands of years struggling to return to its former glory.
✶ Alisaie remarks that the Ascians' dream of rejoining all the worlds will not restore the lives of its people - but she is unsure if, were she in their position, she would have thought any differently.
✶ Their worship concluded, Urianger questions Tolshs Aath of the Ondo about an 'illuminated land' he has mentioned before. Tolshs Aath explains that a light has recently been seen at the bottom of an immensely deep undersea gorge. When the Ondo investigated, it turned out to consist of an entire city.
✶ Tolshs Aath says that the city was unmistakably built by the same people as the underwater ruins they stand before were. They understood this to mean the Ancients had risen. They retreated to their village, declaring that nobody should approach the trench unless they were given a sign.
✶ Alphinaud asks how they can get down there. Tolshs Aath, decreeing that the Scions' arrival is the sign they were awaiting, agrees to show them the way.
